Who we’re looking for:

The role of the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer provides direction and practical assistance to employees and managers to achieve best practice WHS procedures and  practices to ensure the physical and psychosocial safety of all employees and contractors in the workplace. The ability to listen and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including seasonal and Islander workers recruited through the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility program, to create a unifying safe workplace culture is critical to the success of this role.

What you’ll be doing:

Reporting to, and supporting, the WHS & HR Manager, the WHS Officer will proactively coach managers and employees on meeting day to day legislative and compliance requirements by conducting risk assessments, reviewing site risk registers, attending safety  meetings and assisting with safety investigations as required.

Other responsibilities:

  • Maintain electronic safety database and develop and review documents including safe work instructions.
  • Facilitate early return to work after workplace injuries and incidents.  
  • Provide support to the PALM program  with worker inductions, medical issues and safety related administration.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Certificate III in WHS is desirable.  
  • Experience with Workers Compensation legislation and coordinating Return to Work processes would be highly regarded. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with managers to influence systematic WHS improvements.
