Variety Improvement Program Technician


We are seeking a motivated and detail-focused VIP Technician to support our Quality Assurance & Control and Variety Improvement Programs. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work across laboratory, field, and data analysis activities, contributing directly to farm productivity, product differentiation and innovation within our Berry operations.

Who We Are Looking For

You are quality-focused, methodical, and enjoy contributing to scientific and operational excellence. You take pride in accurate data, enjoy hands-on laboratory and field work, and value being part of a collaborative team supporting innovation and compliance in fresh produce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Analyse berry fruit juice samples to determine brix and acid levels
  • Monitor shelf-life samples across multiple varieties
  • Conduct blueberry fruit evaluations including bloom, taste, firmness, crunch, scar, and overall scoring
  • Undertake field walks and in-field evaluations of upcoming blueberry varieties
  • Assist with planting and pruning activities within variety improvement areas
  • Support the Plant Breeder and Horticultural Manager as required
  • Maintain an understanding of quality and assurance standards and how it relates to customer needs
  • Perform accurate data entry, reporting, and maintain high-quality record keeping standards

Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related discipline preferred

Experience:

  • Experience in a laboratory, QA, horticulture, or agricultural production role will be highly regarded

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (basic level)
  • Confidence working with data, analysis, and reporting

Communication & Work Style:

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under limited supervision with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

Other Requirements:

  • Unrestricted Australian driver’s licence
  • Full Australian working rights
