Trades Assistant

Here at Mushroom Exchange, we are dedicated to growing the highest quality mushrooms. We are currently seeking a Trades assistant to work on the day shift.
About the role:
Reporting to the Engineering and Reliability Manager, this hands-on role is responsible for supporting the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, with a focus on picking trolleys and general plant infrastructure. The Trades Assistant works closely with the broader Engineering and Reliability team to ensure machinery and tools are operating safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of picking trolleys, mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Carry out welding, lubrication, and mechanical adjustments as required.
- Carry Out Preventive Maintenance activities for equipment and machinery.
- Maintain accurate service and equipment records in the MEX system.
- Report all maintenance requirements and materials needed to the Maintenance Manager.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organised work area, and follow all company safety standards.
- Participating in training, development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will bring hands-on maintenance experience, aptitude for learning and implementing mechanical trade skills, a proactive approach, and a commitment to high safety and quality standards.
We are looking for someone with:
- Previous experience in a mechanical or maintenance role beneficial.
- Trade qualifications and welding proficiency beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and maintain clear communication with team members.
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Experience with MEX or similar maintenance systems is an advantage.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
- High attention to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- A proactive and accountable approach to work.
