Senior Project Manager - Engineering
Costa is a global leading grower, packer, and marketer of premium quality fresh fruit and vegetables. Our success is built on a commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability across every part of our business.
Costa has more than 8000 planted hectares of farmland including berries, citrus, avocados, bananas and table grapes. We also operate 40 hectares of hi-tech glasshouses and three main mushroom growing facilities. We have operations in more than 60 rural and regional communities across Australia and in China, Morocco and Laos. Our produce includes avocados, bananas, berries, citrus, grapes, mushrooms and tomatoes.
The Opportunity
Costa Group’s Technical function is delivering a significant capital investment program to support the continued growth and performance of our operations across Australia and internationally. This portfolio spans complex Greenfield and Brownfield projects delivered in live, operational environments, where safety, discipline and commercial accountability are critical.
With strong executive sponsorship and clear Capex governance, this role is a key leadership appointment within our project delivery capability. Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, the Senior Project Manager is accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of major capital projects, ensuring outcomes are achieved safely, on time, within approved scope and budget, and aligned to Costa’s strategic objectives.
This is a senior, hands‑on role requiring close partnership with operational, engineering and commercial leaders across Costa.
Key Focus Areas
As Senior Project Manager, you will lead projects from concept development through to commissioning and operational handover. You will apply disciplined project management practices, maintain financial control, and actively manage risk, safety and stakeholder expectations in dynamic operating environments.
The role duties include:
- Leading internal teams and managing external consultants, contractors and suppliers
- Working closely with business units to define project scope, objectives and delivery plans
- Managing scope, schedule and costs through robust controls, verification and performance reporting
- Maintaining clear project documentation and escalating issues to protect delivery outcomes
- Building effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external parties, including vendors and statutory authorities.
About You
We are seeking a senior, hands‑on project leader with:
- An Engineering degree, preferably with an electrical or automation specialisation
- Proven experience delivering complex capital projects end‑to‑end, from concept through to commissioning and handover
- Strong on‑site delivery capability, including cost control, scheduling and Capex financial discipline
- Experience leading Greenfield and Brownfield projects in live, operational environments
- Demonstrated ownership of safety, risk, quality and compliance outcomes
- The ability to partner credibly with senior operational, engineering and commercial stakeholders
- A pragmatic, solutions‑focused mindset, with the ability to operate autonomously across multiple projects and locations
- Experience in agribusiness, food manufacturing, primary production or other asset‑intensive industries (highly regarded).
This role is suited to delivery‑focused project managers who thrive in operational environments and take direct accountability for outcomes. It is not a PMO or coordination‑only role.
Why work at Costa?
- A modern, welcoming Docklands office with a strong, inclusive culture and a 4/1 hybrid working arrangement
- The opportunity to work for a leading Australian agribusiness with a growing international footprint
- Exposure to large‑scale capital projects that directly support food production, performance and sustainability
- Strong executive sponsorship and clear decision‑making frameworks
- A collaborative, values‑led environment where accountability and delivery are genuinely valued.
