What we are looking for
We’re seeking an experienced Pack Shed Manager to lead our packing shed and post-harvest operations in Far North Queensland.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, this role is responsible for the efficient movement of fruit from receival through to dispatch. You’ll oversee packing, cooling, storage and logistics coordination while ensuring fruit is handled in line with quality, customer and timeframe requirements.
Working closely with the Harvest Manager and other key stakeholders, you’ll align harvest volumes, packing capacity and customer demand while driving continuous improvement across post-harvest operations.
We’re looking for an organised and hands-on operational leader who can balance changing harvest volumes, labour requirements, dispatch timeframes, product quality and cost considerations. The successful candidate will also be confident identifying bottlenecks and improving performance within a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
This is a permanent full-time position based in the Atherton region. Flexibility and extended working hours may be required during peak harvest periods.
What you’ll do
- Lead and coordinate packing shed activities, including packing, cooling, storage and dispatch
- Ensure fruit is handled efficiently and within required timeframes to maximise quality, yield and operational performance
- Optimise pack line performance, labour utilisation, throughput and resource allocation
- Oversee cool chain management from harvest through to dispatch
- Coordinate dispatch and order fulfilment in line with customer requirements and schedules
- Work closely with harvest, quality, supply chain, marketing and transport teams to align supply and demand
- Monitor pack shed performance, operational costs and resource utilisation
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational bottlenecks
- Coordinate packaging supplies and maintain stock levels in line with production requirements
- Oversee the maintenance of pack shed facilities, plant and equipment
- Maintain accurate operational records and provide timely performance reporting
- Lead food safety, quality, compliance and workplace health and safety outcomes across post-harvest operations
What you’ll bring
- Experience in pack shed, logistics or post-harvest operations
- Experience managing teams and labour within an operational environment
- Strong knowledge of fresh produce handling, cool chain management and supply chain processes
- Knowledge of food safety, quality assurance and compliance requirements
- The ability to analyse performance information and drive operational improvements
- Strong planning, organisation and time-management skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder-management capability
- Strong computer literacy and reporting skills
- A current driver’s licence
- A strong commitment to workplace safety, food safety, quality and operational accountability
A qualification in agribusiness, logistics or a related discipline will be highly regarded. A forklift licence is also desirable.
