About the role: 

An exciting opportunity for a mushroom enthusiast to work within the Growing team at Mernda! Your aim will be to achieve maximum yield of mushrooms, through the effective environmental control of the compost pasteurization and conditioning process and ensuring mycelium growth matures and colonises in the spawn running rooms.

This role will be primarily night shift. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • To monitor environmental conditions - air and compost temperature in pasteurization sheds and adjust process controls through the fan com system and thermometers.
  • To monitor environmental conditions – air, compost temperature, and humidity during spawn running process and adjust air temperature.
  • To monitor fly counts and gas out when appropriate and monitor crop hygiene.
  • To participate in production/growing meetings.
  • Report diseased trays and collapsing trays.
  • Complete and maintain crop charts for pasteurization and spawn running rooms.
  • Take samples of compost at filling, spawning, and casing and send them to laboratory.
  • Report any maintenance issues with the fancom system.
  • Support Costa employees and managers to achieve best practice HS&E, Injury Management, Communication & Collaboration, EEO, Diversity, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Customer Service and Continuous Improvement.

About you:

  • Forklift licence beneficial but not essential.
  • High attention to detail.
