Business Development Manager

Costa Berry International is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager based in Coffs Harbour, NSW, to lead the ongoing global commercialisation and adoption of BluGenix berry genetics. This role is central to delivering long‑term growth through strategic customer partnerships, disciplined sales planning, and robust commercial and royalty frameworks.

Working closely with key customers, this role will shape genetics uptake strategies, influence global breeding and deployment decisions, and build the commercial systems required to support a growing global genetics program.

About Costa

Costa is Australia’s leading grower, packer and marketer of premium quality fresh fruit and vegetables.  We nurture our people, cultivate our growing sites and invest in ongoing research and development. All the products we grow, and sell are fresh, nutritious, unprocessed and grown on our very own farms or those of our partner growers.

The Costa Berry International Category is at the forefront of genetic growing and innovation. We grow in Morocco, China and Laos, with fruit exported and sold globally.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage strategic commercial relationships with key customers
  • Partner with the Variety Deployment Manager to identify commercial opportunities and actively promote BluGenix varieties across global markets
  • Develop and deliver a 5‑year sales and growth plan to drive uptake of BluGenix genetics in line with program growth aspirations
  • Identify and prioritise strategic growers and regions to accelerate adoption
  • Collaborate with Driscoll’s business unit and product leaders to align BluGenix genetics with their long‑term business and product strategies
  • Provide commercial insight into horticulture, breeding programs, and global berry genetics adoption, influencing strategic and investment decisions
  • Lead enterprise, sales, and financial modelling to assess competitiveness and identify new royalty and licensing opportunities
  • Own and maintain BluGenix royalty forecasting, sales projections, and financial models
  • Develop and improve global commercial and plant asset information systems, including plant orders, plant issuances, and planted asset tracking
  • Provide central oversight of global plant order and asset management platforms

About you

You are a commercially driven professional with a strong track record in sales, commercial strategy, or business development. Experience within horticulture, agribusiness, or a related sector is highly regarded, but not essential providing you can demonstrate how your previous experience would adapt for the agriculture environment. You are comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels and influencing outcomes across complex, global environments.

You will bring:

  • Experience in sales leadership, commercial strategy, or business development

  • Experience working with global customers, growers, and cross‑functional stakeholders
  • Strong analytical capability and comfort working with commercial data and systems
  • Excellent relationship‑building, communication, and influencing skills
  • A results‑focused mindset, balanced with the ability to think long‑term and strategically

A tertiary qualification in agribusiness, horticulture, commerce, finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
