We are looking for an Agronomist to join our Costa Avocado team in Far North Queensland. This role will be based in the Atherton region in FNQ and will report to the National Agronomy Manager.

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to work closely with the Farm Managers and National Agronomy Manager to assist in farm improvement practices to ensure the highest possible yield and quality of fruit. This role will specifically focus upon Avocado farming operations and will require work across all sites in the region.

Some of the Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities include field implementation, assessments, monitoring, data and sample collection for the development of best agronomic outcomes and practices, with a specific focus on yield, quality, and the right fruit size.  A critical stage of this process will be communicating best practice changes to technical teams and providing hands-on advice for their successful implementation.

When not assigned to trial programs or other horticultural project activities, the incumbent will undertake other farm assessment and technical activities including crop estimates, leaf and soil sampling, fruit growth measurements and data analysis.  The outcomes of these agronomic analyses will be communicated to the National Agronomy Manager with the goal of achieving continuous improvement in our farming practices.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience in a similar role as well as: -

  • A degree in Agricultural Science or other relevant discipline related to crop production
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in similar role
  • Knowledge of Crop Nutrition, Crop Irrigation and Pest & Disease management
  • Advanced computer capabilities- including Office software - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to record and interpret data relevant to the position.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Well organised, disciplined and thorough in approach
  • Work within an environment of continuous change
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-growing environment
  • Open to personal development and learning new skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and with all levels of an organisation
  • Current driver’s license
