Irrigators are responsible for the operation of irrigation systems in substrate and soil grown berry blocks. This role combines operational and maintenance task of fertiliser mixing, irrigation control systems and irrigation lines with regular monitoring of plant water use and plant health.

Primary Objective

To supervise and support the irrigation team and the operation of irrigation systems in substrate-grown berry blocks. This role combines operation and maintenance of fertiliser mixing, irrigation control systems and irrigation lines with regular monitoring of plant water use and plant health. The duties and responsibilities of this job are outlined below and may vary from time to time in line with the needs of the business and as directed by your manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plant health
  • Ensure optimal operation of irrigation systems through regular monitoring and maintenance
  • Manage fertiliser stocks, lifting and moving fertiliser bags, maintain fertiliser mixing and dosing equipment.
  • Guide irrigators, with the help of horticulturalists, to ensure maximum plant and system health
  • Scout blocks for irrigation and plant health issues; spot fix and report major issues to the Farm Manager and/or horticulture team
  • Labour/Roster planning
  • Ensuring system maintenance is on track and complete 
  • Perform miscellaneous maintenance tasks within substrate blocks as required and/or directed, completing check sheets and records for work performed to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and accountable fashion.
  • Other reasonable duties as required

Take reasonable actions within your authority to ensure compliance with work health and safety legislation and Costa policies, protocols and procedures for the health and safety of all workers and visitors within the workplace.

Qualifications

  • No specific education requirements
  • Forklift (desirable)
  • Drivers Licence
  • Chemcert (desired)

Experience

  • Agricultural/horticultural experience is desired but not a requirement.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role.
