Who we’re looking for:

If you enjoy working outdoors and have the physical capacity to perform manual labour, the role  of Irrigation Hand/Technician is an entry level introduction to a long term career in the Horticulture Industry.  Previous experience working on a large scale Orchard or Vineyard would be advantageous but candidates with the aptitude and desire to be a fast learner will be considered. To be successful, you must be reliable, possess a good work ethic and carry out instructions in a safe manner. The position is casual initially but long term employment opportunities are available for the right person.

What you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Irrigation Manager, the Irrigation Hand will be based at Colignan Farm (30 minute drive from Mildura) and will assist in the maintenance and repair of overhead sprinkler and drip irrigation across 113 hectares of citrus and Winegrape plantings. The flexibility to work night shifts or weekends, as required, is essential to ensure seasonal and operational requirements are met.

Other responsibilities:

  • Cleaning filters,  flushing dripline and unblocking of overhead sprinklers.
  • Record fertiliser usage.
  • Check that irrigation has gone as programmed.
  • Mixing and distribution of fertilisers.
  • General farm work as required.

What you’ll bring to the role:

We’re looking for someone with…

  • Understanding of soils and irrigation to inform irrigation scheduling decisions.
  • Basic computer skills in order to access online soil moisture sensor data.
  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve irrigation issues, with supervision. 
  • Own reliable transport and current Driver’s License is essential.
  • Backhoe Licence would be highly regarded.
